Extending the Conversation: Reflections on The Double Tax Book Salon with Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman

At Working for Women, we believe that the most meaningful conversations don’t end when the room empties—they continue to ripple outward, shaping how we think, lead, and advocate for change.

That’s exactly what we’re seeing following our December Book Salon at Luminary, where we gathered in community to explore The Double Tax with its author, Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman, in conversation with Francesca Donner.

We’re grateful to The Persistent for capturing the depth and nuance of that evening in a thoughtful Q&A that extends the dialogue far beyond the event itself.

In both the salon and the interview, Anna challenges us to confront the “double tax”—the often invisible economic and emotional burdens that women, particularly women of color, continue to carry in systems not designed with them in mind. It’s a framework that resonates deeply with our mission, underscoring the urgency of building workplaces and economies that truly work for all women.

The conversation is both a reflection and a call to action, inviting us to rethink what equity looks like in practice, and how we each play a role in advancing it.

We also want to recognize the stunning visual storytelling that accompanies the piece, with illustration by Natalie Newsome, which brings another layer of depth and accessibility to these important ideas.

We invite you to read the full interview and continue the conversation:

To everyone who joined us that evening, thank you for being part of a community committed to listening, learning, and driving change.

And this is just the beginning. More Working for Women Book Salons are on the horizon, and we look forward to continuing these critical conversations together.
