In Her Words: The Women of Working for Women
These are the voices of women in our programs—sharing their challenges, triumphs, and dreams for the future, in their own words.
“Working for Women reminded me that I already had a voice. It gave me the tools, confidence, and community to use it — for myself and for others.”
— Samiyah
Samiyah has always been passionate about helping other women find their power. But when it came to advocating for herself, she often held back. Through Working for Women’s negotiation and financial empowerment programs, she gained the confidence to speak up, ask for more, and take ownership of her financial future. Along the way, she discovered that investing in herself wasn’t selfish — it was essential.

“Because of Working for Women, I’ve reached milestones I once thought were out of reach — advocating for myself, gaining control over my finances, and believing that more is possible. And I’m just getting started.”
— Corryn Barnes
When Corryn landed her first “real” job, she was proud but unsure of how to claim her place within it. Raised to keep her head down and work twice as hard, she had learned to shrink in rooms where confidence felt risky, and money conversations felt out of reach. Through negotiation workshops, financial coaching, and a community that treated vulnerability as strength, Corryn began rewriting that story, advocating for a raise, paying off long-standing debt, and redefining what was possible for her future
